Dear DiMaggio Fans:

In 1949, NY Yankee fans presented Joe DiMaggio with the Joltin Joe, a 22-foot Chris Craft run- about.  Soon thereafter, Mr. DiMaggio sent the boat to Martinez, CA, the town of his birth. The Joltin Joe has remained in Martinez ever since. In the early 1990’s, at the request of the City of Martinez, Mr. DiMaggio donated the boat to the City of Martinez, the current owner of the boat. The Joltin Joe was displayed in the Martinez Marina. Unfortunately, the weather took its toll on the Joltin Joe, and now it is in need of repair.

The City of Martinez is proud to call Joe DiMaggio their native son, but budget restraints preclude the City from restoring the Joltin Joe.  A fundraising effort by the Sons of Italy in America, Diablo Valley Lodge #2167, Martinez, CA is currently underway to raise the funds necessary to restore the Joltin Joe. The goal is to raise enough money to professionally restore the boat to a displayable state. The City of Martinez has agreed to place the boat in a climate controlled environment after restoration where it will be protected from the elements and preserved for future generations to enjoy.

We hope that you will consider our request and help us restore this valuable piece of national sports memorabilia.

If you would like further information regarding this project, please feel free to call Chuck Massetti at 925-935-1228, President, Sons of Italy in America, Diablo Lodge 1627, or Dave Scola, Public Works Director, City of Martinez, at 925-372-3565. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.  Names of major donors will be displayed on a plaque to be exhibited with the Joltin Joe after restoration, and donations are tax deductible.

Sincerely,

Chuck Massetti, President

Sons of Italy in America, Diablo Valley Lodge 2167
